Responsabilities

Work environment :

Located in the historic centre of the City of Namur, capital of Wallonia, the University of Namur, with over 60 first, second and third-cycle university programmes, its 11 research institutes and its 11 technological platforms, welcomes nearly 8,000 students and doctoral candidates each year across its 7 faculties and has more than 1,300 staff members, including over 800 researchers. Within the University of Namur, the EMCP Faculty (Economics Management Communication Political Science – www.unamur.be/emcp) has nearly 1,800 students and 250 staff members, including 40 permanent academic and 70 scientific/doctoral staff, distributed across 3 departments/schools (Namur School of Economics, UNamur School of Management, Department of Social, Political and Communication Sciences). It offers 1stcycle (bachelor), 2nd-cycle (master) and 3rd-cycle (e.g. doctorate) programmes in management and economics, both during the day and in evening sessions. It also offers 1st and 3rd-cycle programmes in political science and in information and communication. Its members carry out cutting-edge research in numerous fields of expertise.

The selected candidate will join the UNamur School of Management (UNSM). The 60 academic and scientific members of UNSM notably contribute to bachelor-level training and run master and doctoral programmes with a strong focus on themes related to finance, service management/marketing, creativity and innovation, and information management. Its members develop research in these themes within 3 research institutes (Development Finance & Public Policies – DeFiPP, Namur Digital Institute – NADI and Namur Institute for Complex systems – naXys) and collaborate, through master theses, internships, seminars and consulting missions, with multiple companies and organisations, both national and international.

Position description :

The activities associated with this position are divided equally between research, teaching and service to the community. The selected candidate must demonstrate a high level of expertise in Data Analytics, with a clear orientation towards a quantitative profile in Information Management and applied experience in Information Systems, Digital Transformation, Process Mining or Decision Support Systems or other equivalent application fields. Candidates who can additionally demonstrate a credible orientation towards the field of political science will be given priority (for example data analysis in citizen participation, public data management or data-driven political decision-making). The candidate will be expected to develop research and teaching activities in these areas while collaborating methodologically with the other research fields represented within the EMCP Faculty. Teaching will be delivered within the programmes organised by the EMCP Faculty (bachelor and master programmes in Business Engineering and in Economics and Management) as well as in the BAGI programme of the Faculty of Computer Science.

More generally, the selected candidate will be expected to :

• Deliver teaching across the various study cycles (1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle) ;

• Supervise master theses and doctoral dissertations ;

• Participate in, lead and/or supervise research programmes in the aforementioned fields within the MINDIT research centre – Management of Information & Digital Transformation, one of the components of the NaDI research institute ;

• Participate in the activities of the Transitions research institute (Democratic Transformations axis).

Through her/his research activities, the candidate will contribute to the international visibility of the university and notably :

• Commit to publishing in leading, high-impact journals in the field ;

• Commit to securing external research funding ;

• Expand the network of partners of the University of Namur.

Finally, in due course, the candidate will carry out service activities within UNSM and BAGI (Advanced Master), the EMCP Faculty and/or the University.

Profile

Required qualifications :

The candidate must :

• Hold a doctorate in management sciences, economics, sciences, or equivalent (or obtain it before taking up the position);

• Be able to publish high-impact scientific research in top international journals in the field of information management, information systems or digital transformation ;

• Demonstrate the ability to interact methodologically and in an interdisciplinary manner with the other research fields of the EMCP Faculty, notably in economics, political science, communication and sociology.

• Be able to provide excellent teaching to a university audience ;

• Be able to integrate research results into teaching ;

• Have the ability to work in a team and to lead and direct a research team ;

• Have a good command of French or otherwise commit to learning it within the year following appointment (B2 level);

• Have a good command of spoken and written English and be able to teach in that language.

The following elements will be considered as assets :

• A credible interest in application areas of data analytics such as e-governance, Evidence-Based Decision Making, Public Decision Support Systems, Data-Driven Governance, Public Policy Analytics ;

• One or more academic stays at a university other than the one that awarded the doctorate (post-doc or research stay of minimum 3 months);

• Creativity and a sensitivity for pedagogical innovation and interdisciplinarity ;

• The ability to bridge with the private/public organisational world and/or the regional political and institutional world in teaching and research and/or to initiate and develop collaborations with them ;

• An aptitude to take on programme responsibility in political science or communication ;

• Teaching experience with a university and/or adult audience ;

• Knowledge of languages other than French and English.

Selection process :

• Review and selection of applications by the Selection Committee ;

• Hearing by the Recruitment Committee (candidates whose application is shortlisted will be invited, within the two months following the application deadline, to give a lecture on an imposed topic and to present their research to members of the Recruitment Committee and of the Faculty);

• Interview by the Human Resources Department ;

• Decision by the Board of Directors of the University.

The form will be completed with a curriculum vitae, a research plan (approximately 3 pages), the teaching project (approximately 3 pages) of the candidate, a maximum of 3 scientific articles (at least one), course evaluations (if available) as well as 2 to 3 letters of recommendation (sent separately by the referees).

Remarks

Contract :

The starting date is set for 1st of September 2027. The Board of Directors provides for a three-year integration period if the selected candidate is appointed for the first time as part of the academic staff of the University of Namur. At the end of this period, the candidate is, subject to a positive evaluation, confirmed in her/his duties.
