Responsabilities
In URBC, NARILIS, Dept of Biology, Faculty of Sciences, we offer a PhD in cell biology and protein trafficking. Your responsibilities will include aspects of :
- Fixed and live cell microscopy assays ;
- Mammalian cell biology ;
- Protein trafficking assays ;
- Biochemistry (incl. Western blots, co-immunoprecipitation) ;
- Mass spectrometry ;
- Presenting your results at local, national and international meetings ;
- Written communication, including reports and the PhD thesis.
Profile
Degree
You are required to hold a masters degree (or equivalent) in biomedical sciences, biology or a similar field.
Experience
As this is a PhD position, no previous lab experience is essential, but it is helpful.
Knowledge required
You should have a keen interest in learning and self-improvement regarding scientific techniques and soft skills.
You will learn to perform techniques in mammalian cell biology to a robust and high standard, including microscopy, image quantification, and protein trafficking assays.
Motivation to build a creative and robust research project is essential!
- High capacity to learn a wide variety of practical and soft skills ;
- Self motivated, able to work alone and in a team ;
- Good level of English, and enthusiasm to improve.

Remarks
The beneficiary of a doctoral scholarship is subject to social security for workers employees :
- if they are Belgian or a national of a Member State of the European Economic Area (EEA) or of a State with which Belgium has concluded a social security agreement, its subjection is complete ;
- if they are a national of another State, this liability is limited to the regimes of compulsory health and invalidity insurance and family allowances.
The PhD scholarship is exempt of taxes.
For the scholarship to take place:
- the doctoral student must be registered in the UNamur doctoral program ;
- the Human Resources Service must have received the favorable opinion of the UNamur doctoral commission.
