Responsabilities

Academic environment

The University of Namur welcomes near 7.000 students every year to its 60 bachelor, master, and doctoral study programs. Of the University’s 1.200 employees, more than 700 actively contribute to research, through 64 research laboratories and centers. The Faculty of economics, social sciences and business administration accounts for near 1400 students and 170 staff members, among whom 85 academic and 70 scientific members. The Faculty offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in information and communication, political sciences, management and economics. Its members undertake research in various fields of expertise.

The candidate will be part of the Department of Political, Social and Communication Sciences. The Department offers bachelor and doctoral programs in information and communication and in political sciences. Research is organized through two research institutes, the Namur Digital Institute (NaDI) and the research institute Transitions. In the later, his members develop three mains research areas, namely Belgian and comparative politics, European politics, and democratic innovations. The Department actively collaborates with national and international institutions and companies, through research projects, seminars, project-based courses and student internships.

Job description

The position involves, in equal parts, teaching and research duties. Teaching (mostly in the field of digital media and communication) will be carried out within the Bachelor’s programmes. Research will be undertaken in the “politics and Society” cluster of the Research institute Transitions.

Profile

The applicant will hold by the end of January 2023 a Master’s degree in political sciences (or equivalent), and is expected to have excelled in his/her curriculum (degree obtained with honours). S/he has a very good command of spoken and written French and English. S/he must display excellent teaching skills. S/he will commit to develop an original research programme likely to lead to a doctoral degree in political sciences supervised by a member of the Department of Political, Social and Communication Sciences.
