A post-doctoral fellow position is available at Namur Research Institute for Life Sciences (NARILIS, LARN, UNamur) to work on the development of a simulation code on proton irradiation and FLASH irradiations in close collaborations with IBA (worldwide leader in proton therapy technology, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium).


The hired person will:

• Participate in the accelerator development (beam line) and the associated dosimetry in close collaboration with the scientists and engineers on the project. The impact of various physical parameters on the beam quality will be studied in the context of FLASH irradiation ;

• Simulate physico-chemical events, optimize and establish a new mathematical model on the basis of already developed codes, to investigate the impact and potential benefit of FLASH and conventional irradiation on cancer and normal cells in 2D and 3D ;

• Be rigorous, analytical, pragmatic, results-oriented, autonomous, quickly adaptable with a strong organizational and relational capacity.

The ideal candidate will have:

• A PhD degree in Physics or Chemistry ;

• Demonstrated capabilities for working in a team: the candidate will work together with several researchers already involved in that research topic ;

• Good knowledge in programming (C ++, Geant4, Geant4-DNA, Fortran, Matlab) ;

• Good knowledge of radiation interaction with matter ;

• Is proficient in English ;

• Has some knowledge in French.
